Peperomia obtusifolia “variegated white” Plant Identification

Table of Contents

QUESTION:

I bought this at Trader Joes a few weeks ago. No identification. I have looked at my books and online and I cannot figure out what it is. Any idea?

ANSWER:

Hi Sandra,

Your plant looks like a type of Peperomia plant. The full name is Peperomia obtusifolia “variegated white.”

Just to be sure, are the leaves thick and a little rubbery? If not, please send me an email and describe the size and texture of the leaves.

If I have the right plant, you can read all my care tips in the Popular Houseplant section of the website. The picture is of the solid green variety but the care tips are just about the same. Your plant needs as much bright indirect light as possible to maintain the white in the leaves. If the light is too low, the new leaves will come in solid green.
