QUESTION:
I have a cutting of this plant, the lady told me what it was but I can’t remember. It has a long name, its stem is woody feeling and she said the whole plant gets big and crazy with these stems. Thank you for any help you can give.
ANSWER:
Hi Ken,
Your plant is a type of Rhipsalis baccifera. It has several common names: Misttletoe Cactus, Rhipsalis Mistletoe Cactus, and Chain Cactus.
Care tips: Put the plant in medium to bright indirect light. Water in the spring and summer when the soil has dried out about 50%. In the fall and winter, allow the soil to dry out completely before watering. Feed the plant monthly from April to September with a cactus plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. You can trim stem sections off with a sharp, sterile knife and use these cuttings to start new plants.
